Where each server JSON file belongs

Select the server edition first, then generate only the ban, access or permission files you intend to replace.

Java

Place the JSON files in your Java server root directory — the same folder as server.jar. Put banned-players.json, whitelist.json, and ops.json there. Restart the server after replacing files. Use /whitelist reload if the server is already running.

banned-players.json | whitelist.json | ops.json

Bedrock

Place permissions.json, allowlist.json, and banned-players-bedrock.json in your Bedrock Dedicated Server root folder — the same directory as bedrock_server.exe (Windows) or bedrock_server (Linux). Restart the server, or use /permission reload for permissions while the server is running.

permissions.json | allowlist.json | banned-players-bedrock.json

Import and update an existing server list

Upload an existing file in the wizard. The merge stays in your browser; review the resolved player, then download the updated JSON.

Server list setup and file questions

Where do I put banned-players.json and whitelist.json? (Java)

Place the JSON files in your Java server root directory — the same folder as server.jar. Put banned-players.json, whitelist.json, and ops.json there. Restart the server after replacing files. Use /whitelist reload if the server is already running.

Where do I put Bedrock permissions.json and allowlist.json?

Place permissions.json, allowlist.json, and banned-players-bedrock.json in your Bedrock Dedicated Server root folder — the same directory as bedrock_server.exe (Windows) or bedrock_server (Linux). Restart the server, or use /permission reload for permissions while the server is running.

What is the difference between ban list, whitelist, and ops?

Ban list (banned-players.json) blocks players from joining. Whitelist (whitelist.json) restricts the server to only listed players when white-list=true in server.properties. Ops (ops.json) grants operator/admin permissions to listed players.

Does this work for both Java and Bedrock servers?

Yes. The JSON List Wizard supports Java Edition (banned-players.json, whitelist.json, ops.json) and Bedrock Edition (permissions.json, allowlist.json, banned-players-bedrock.json). Floodgate UUID is available for cross-play servers using GeyserMC.

How do I get XUID for Bedrock server lists?

Enter a Bedrock player's Xbox gamertag in the search box. We look up their XUID from our cache or from GeyserMC's API, then you can add them to permissions.json, allowlist.json, or banned-players-bedrock.json. Floodgate UUID is included for cross-play servers.

What is permissions.json used for in Bedrock?

permissions.json sets player permission levels on a Bedrock Dedicated Server: visitor (view only), member (play normally, no commands), or operator (full admin). Each entry needs the player's XUID. online-mode must be enabled for XUID verification.

Do I need to restart my server after updating JSON files?

Java: Restart the server, or use /whitelist reload for whitelist changes. Bedrock: Restart the server, or use /permission reload for permissions. Ban list changes usually require a restart on both editions.
