Shown after a completed match
What does S+ mean for the champion you played?
The letter is a match-specific champion grade. It belongs beside the champion you used in that game, not in a list ranking every champion.
Two uses of the same letters
Which S+ did you mean?
Choose by when and where you saw the label.
On a real end screen or captured match row, the champion is the one you personally played. The ladder below explains the possible letters; it is not a champion roster.
Complete grade order
From S+ down to D-
Read one row at a time. Each family contains a plus grade, the plain letter and a minus grade; Riot does not publish a K/D/A threshold that reproduces them.
Inside every family: plus ranks above the plain letter, and minus ranks below it.
The comparison matters
It is more than kills and deaths
Your selected champion
Riot compares performance in champion context. Yuumi and Blitzcrank are not judged as though they have the same job.
The role you played
The same champion in Mid and Support can have different expectations and comparison groups.
Similar champion-position games
Riot's support guidance describes comparison with other players in the region using that champion-position combination.
Several parts of the match
Team-helping decisions and role-relevant contribution matter. K/D/A by itself cannot prove a grade.
What counts toward S+?
The honest answer has two layers
Riot confirms the comparison used to award a grade, but does not publish the complete stat formula, thresholds or weights. Nobody outside Riot can truthfully promise “reach this K/D/A for S+.”
Your overall performance
The completed match is assessed in the context of the champion and position you played, compared with other players in your region using that champion-position combination.
Combat, resources and contribution
K/D/A, deaths avoided, farming or Support income, damage, vision, objective participation and team-helping actions describe parts of the performance. Riot has not published how much each one weighs.
The exact S+ threshold
The hidden calculation, stat weights and required percentile are not public. Queue, patch, match duration and unusual champion-role samples can also make simplistic online calculators unreliable.
Review lane resources, deaths, pressure, damage and whether your movement helped the team without giving away repeated waves.
Review farm, deaths, successful map involvement, vision and objective participation. No single Dragon or gank guarantees a letter.
Review vision, assists, protection or control, deaths and useful participation. Low CS is normal for Support and should not be read like a farming role.
What does not guarantee S+
No single scoreboard number is enough
A win alone does not guarantee S+, and a loss does not make every high grade impossible.
Kills and assists can look excellent while missing deaths, resources, vision, objectives and role context.
Damage can include low-value poke or reflect a longer match. It is context, not an automatic grade.
There is no reliable universal “10 kills plus 200 CS” recipe because the comparison changes with champion and position.
Three different systems
Keep these labels separate
One champion performance in one completed game.
Long-term champion score, levels, Marks and milestones. Grades can contribute to that progress.
An independent site's patch, role and queue comparison. It does not grade your match.
Open tier-list explanationIs that backwards?
No. This page uses descending order.
S+ is the best grade shown, followed by S and S-. The scale continues through A, B and C to D-, the lowest grade shown. A plus is above the plain letter; a minus is below it.
VRC.LOL match history
No guessed grades
When a captured completed-match record includes Riot's letter, VRC.LOL can place it beside that match's champion. Match-v5 snapshots used here do not currently include that end-screen field, so older rows say not captured. A good K/D/A is never silently converted into S+.
