Illustrated jungle map with neutral monster clearings and a river

Summoner's Rift jungle

Learn the camps. Plan the first clear.

See what lives in every camp, choose a route that fits the champion and recognise when lanes, river or an objective have made that route unsafe.

Before the first clear

Three checks before leaving base

The route begins in champion select, not when the first monster appears.

1

Confirm Jungle

Take Smite and the jungle companion offered for the intended plan. Assigned-position quests apply in queues that use assigned positions.

2

Choose the finish side

Decide which lane or river side you want to reach after clearing. Starting Red does not always mean finishing near Bot.

3

Watch the entrances

Stand where an invade can be seen without taking a reckless fight. A spotted enemy can change the safer starting camp.

The role, plainly explained

Farm, help a lane or take an objective?

Jungle is a repeating decision, not an order to clear every camp or start every Dragon. Keep enough income to function, then leave the route when a real team play is worth more.

Camps fund the roleYour most dependable gold, experience and quest progress.
Lanes create opportunitiesGank, countergank or cover when the timing is real.
Objectives need the teamSmite helps secure Dragon; it does not make an unsafe start correct.
Five useful choices

Choose what helps the team now

No fixed order, camp quota or compulsory Dragon timer.

These are options, not commands. A Jungler can farm, visit a lane, cover an ally, place vision, invade, reset or prepare an objective. The best choice changes with the map.

  1. 1
    One optionFarm a camp

Useful when no lane needs immediate help, your companion quest needs progress or you need levels and an item.

Watch for spending so long clearing that an obvious nearby play disappears.
  2. 2
    One optionVisit a lane

Useful when an opponent is reachable, an ally can follow or the opposing Jungler may arrive soon.

Watch for staying after the useful moment has ended and taking time or farm without a reason.
  3. 3
    One optionMove between lanes

Top to Mid, Mid to Bot or another route is fine when the next lane offers protection, pressure or a reachable play.

Watch for crossing the map repeatedly when camps, recalls or a shorter route would achieve more.
  4. 4
    One optionPrepare an objective

Place vision, clear nearby camps or move with allies before Dragon, Baron or another available objective.

Watch for treating Smite as a reason to begin when nearby allies cannot safely move.
  5. 5
One optionTrade on the other side

If one area is unsafe, use the time for camps, vision, a lane visit, a reset or pressure somewhere else.

Watch for arriving late to a lost contest when a useful alternative is still available.

A useful visit can end without a kill

Notice what changed, then choose the next route

Do not remain only because you already walked there.
Pressure createdAn opponent lost health, a spell or a Summoner Spell.
Danger preventedYou covered a dive, countergank, wave or vulnerable turret.
Information gainedYou found the opposing Jungler or made an entrance safer.
Window closedReturn to camps, reset, vision or the next reachable play.
1Default action

Keep a camp cycle alive

Clear large monsters to progress the quest and retain income. Skipping one or two camps for a useful play is normal; abandoning every returning camp to wait in a lane is expensive.

  • No enemy is safely reachable
  • Your camps are returning now
  • You are behind in levels or item progress
  • The nearby objective has no safe setup
2Leave the route

Help when the lane has a job

A successful visit is not limited to a kill. Protecting a crashing wave, covering a turret, forcing a Summoner Spell or stopping the opposing Jungler can justify the time.

  • The opponent is overextended
  • Your ally has health and useful cooldowns
  • A countergank is likely
  • A vulnerable wave or turret needs cover
3Team decision

Start Dragon only with a setup

The Jungler usually carries the strongest secure tool, but Dragon belongs to the whole team. Nearby lanes must be able to move, the pit must be survivable and the enemy response must be understood.

  • Smite is ready or returning in time
  • Mid or Bot can move first
  • Important enemies are visible or unable to contest
  • Your team has health, damage and an exit
Do I have to kill every jungle monster?

No. Camps are the reliable baseline, not a compulsory checklist. Riot's 2026 notes explicitly describe skipping a camp or two for a team objective as a trade-off the Jungle system accounts for.

Am I responsible for every Dragon?

You are important because Smite helps finish the objective securely, but you are not forced to start it. Ping the risk and trade elsewhere when lanes cannot move, enemies control the river or your team cannot survive the contest.

Can I camp or repeatedly assist one lane?

Yes, when each visit creates something useful: protection, pressure, a forced cooldown, a countergank or a wave reset. Repeating a failed wait while camps remain alive gives the opposing Jungler time to gain levels and control the other side.

Does Swiftplay change the choice?

It changes the pace, not the principle. Swiftplay has faster camp returns and a shorter companion quest, and Riot describes room to farm or gank. It also removes Void Grubs and Rift Herald, so route choices around those objectives do not apply there.

Both sides are equal on this map. Opposing camps use a red ring so they remain distinct without becoming smaller or harder to read. Top pit: Void Grubs, Rift Herald and Baron Nashor. Dragon pit: Elemental Dragons and Elder Dragon.

The bright numbered line is your active plan. Fainter routes remain as comparison paths, not extra instructions.

Selected route

Full clear

Build dependable experience and pet progress, then choose between river, a nearby lane or a reset.

  1. 1Red BramblebackPull it toward Krugs or Raptors and decide the next camp before it dies.
  2. 2KrugsStay until the split forms are cleared, then move toward lane or Raptors.
  3. 3RaptorsGroup the small raptors before spending area abilities; clear the whole camp.
  4. 4Murk WolvesFocus the large wolf while area damage clears the two smaller wolves.
  5. 5Blue SentinelPull it toward Gromp or Wolves so the walk to camp two is shorter.
  6. 6GrompUse strong single-target damage and finish moving toward Blue or Wolves.

An example, not a universal correct order. Health, champion clear strengths, an invade, a nearby countergank or a safe objective can make a different next move better.

Camp atlas

Every home camp and river monster

The six home camps repeat on both sides of the Rift. The cards name what is inside each camp, when it first appears and what changes between standard play and Swiftplay.

Map tools, not camps

Three plants that alter movement and vision

Plants do not grant jungle companion progress, but they can make an objective entrance, escape or gank route safer.

1

Blast Cone

Cross walls or create distance

Check where every nearby champion will land before striking it.

2

Scryer's Bloom

Reveal a long jungle corridor

Aim through entrances, objectives and likely ward lines before walking forward.

3

Honeyfruit

Restore health and mana in the river

The slow can make a hurried escape worse, so collect it before the contest when possible.

Do not mix queue timings

Draft / Ranked and Swiftplay

Swiftplay begins faster and returns camps sooner. A route can be structurally similar while its recall and repeat-clear timing changes.

Swiftplay Dragon Soul: Only two Elemental Drakes can spawn. The same team must secure both to receive Soul; if each team takes one, neither team receives Soul. Swiftplay also has no Void Grubs or Rift Herald, Baron arrives at 12:00, and Elder can arrive from 15:00. Treat the in-game timer as final when a later patch changes.

Jungle system

Smite and the companion

  1. 1Clear large monstersYour companion progresses as the Jungle quest advances.
  2. 2Use Smite deliberatelyIt speeds camps and secures neutral monsters, but having Smite does not make an unsafe objective contest correct.
  3. 3Finish the questThe companion evolves as its required progress is completed. Swiftplay reaches completion sooner.

Before entering a lane

Is there actually a gank?

  • Reachable targetThe enemy is far enough forward and has not already escaped.
  • Ally can followYour laner has health, resources and a route into the play.
  • Useful cooldownsThe control or damage needed for the attempt is available.
  • Known exitYou are not walking through unwarded terrain into the opposing Jungler.

If two checks fail, keep your tempo. Continue the clear, cover a wave, establish vision or reset instead of waiting in a visible brush.

After the first clear

Pathing becomes a repeated decision

Track which camps are returning, which lanes can move and which side contains the next useful objective. A route is a plan for movement, not a promise to fight.
