Behind the name
The story of this place
The former capital's libraries and vaults evoke the knowledge once preserved by the Blessed Isles. The Ruination makes those remnants evidence of a lost civilisation. Thresh, Kalista and Viego connect to different roles in that catastrophe; their stories should not be flattened into one account of the city's inhabitants.
Part of a larger world
Shadow Isles
The name hides an earlier identity: the Blessed Isles. Knowledge and sanctuary gave way to the Ruination and the Black Mist. Viego and Kalista connect to the catastrophe, while Maokai and Yorick show why the region's story is also one of resistance.

Stories connected to this place
These connections include origins, pivotal events and the wider culture of the setting. They do not confirm a character's current location.
EliseHow their story connects
Elise's arrangement with the Spider God depends on bringing further victims to the Shadow Isles. The youth she displays in Noxian society therefore carries an ongoing cost paid by others. Her social standing and the horror across the sea belong to the same predatory cycle.
HecarimHow their story connects
The spectral rider's violence continues the ambition and betrayal of his mortal life. His fusion with the horse makes the Ruination visible in his body. Kalista's account restores the human decisions behind that transformation, rather than treating the disaster as an excuse for everything he does.
KalistaHow their story connects
Kalista's attempt to find healing for her queen led her to the Blessed Isles. That journey helped set the tragedy of the Ruination in motion.
KarthusHow their story connects
Karthus brings his songs toward the living because he believes undeath should be welcomed. His calm does not make the encounter safe. Yorick and Maokai resist the condition he celebrates, giving the same islands sharply opposed meanings in the lives of those who endure them.
MaokaiHow their story connects
Maokai uses the life preserved within him against the corruption that surrounds his former home. His anger serves a desire to restore a living landscape. Sharing the islands with other survivors does not mean sharing their purposes, especially where undeath is welcomed or exploited.
ThreshHow their story connects
Thresh's role as a warden of forbidden knowledge belongs to the Blessed Isles before the catastrophe transformed the setting into the Shadow Isles.
VexHow their story connects
The Shadow Isles give Vex an environment she prefers, while her shadow lets that preference affect other people. Her connection to Viego draws personal dissatisfaction into a much larger threat. Feeling detached from others does not make the consequences of helping him detached or imaginary.
ViegoHow their story connects
Viego's attempt to restore Isolde's life at the Blessed Isles is central to the catastrophe that consumed their civilisation.
YorickHow their story connects
Yorick's use of the dead makes his work resemble the curse he opposes. His purpose is to end the islands' suffering, not preserve it as a source of domination. That distinction separates him from specters whose power depends on keeping other souls trapped.

Where the stories come from
VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.
What the pictures show
Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.
A world still being written
Older biographies and newer adaptations can differ. These guides introduce connections rather than declaring a final chronology or a character's current whereabouts. Translations help you explore and may keep original proper names. Follow the official sources for full context.
