The person behind the champion

A story to start with

Lissandra's magic twists the pure power of ice into something dark and terrible. With the force of her black ice, she does more than freeze—she impales and crushes those who oppose her. To the terrified denizens of the north, she is known only as ''The Ice Witch.'' The truth is much more sinister: Lissandra is a corruptor of nature who plots to unleash an ice age on the world.

Short biography by Riot Games · Data Dragon 16.20.1

What shapes their story?

The authority Lissandra maintains depends on what other people are not allowed to know. Her long effort to contain an ancient danger makes preservation inseparable from secrecy, and leaves the Freljord's public traditions carrying a concealed history.

The three sisters and an ancient bargain
Lissandra's history reaches back to the three sisters and the powers beyond the mortal realm. The bargains of that distant age left consequences far more dangerous than the public legend of an ice witch suggests.

The Watchers beneath the ice
The Watchers beneath the ice make concealment part of her rule. Frostguard authority, controlled stories and terrible sacrifices all serve a struggle whose truth most Freljordian people never see.

A hidden duty behind the public legend
Keeping the Watchers asleep demands an endless struggle beneath the Freljord's familiar stories of rulers and tribes. Lissandra's control of history helps conceal that danger. The sacrifices involved make her neither a straightforward saviour nor merely the conqueror described in older short summaries.

Nunu & Willump

Nunu met Lissandra while among the Frostguard. Her interest in his mother's songs gives their encounter an uncertain purpose; attention from an ancient ruler is not automatically kindness or an alliance.

Where the stories come from

VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.

What the pictures show

Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.
