A story to start with

Widely considered one of the most adept sorcerers on Runeterra, Ryze is an ancient, hard-bitten archmage with an impossibly heavy burden to bear. Armed with immense arcane power and a boundless constitution, he tirelessly hunts for World Runes—fragments of the raw magic that once shaped the world from nothingness. He must retrieve these artifacts before they fall into the wrong hands, for Ryze understands the horrors they could unleash on Runeterra.

What shapes their story?

The warning embodied by Brand is personal to the mage trying to contain the Runes. Ryze's distrust grows from witnessed consequences and failed restraint, making the burden of protection inseparable from the risk of sharing his purpose with another pupil.

    Ryze lived through the destructive misuse of the World Runes. The knowledge that they helped shape existence makes their danger far more than the ordinary risk of a powerful weapon.

    His long search is an effort to remove temptation before another catastrophe begins. Each artifact found creates a responsibility to contain it rather than claim the prestige or power it could offer.

    Ryze's history with Kegan, later Brand, makes the World Runes' danger personal. Finding one is not the same as making it safe, because even an ally may be tempted to use it. His isolation grows from the responsibility of refusing power other people believe they could control.
