The person behind the champion

A story to start with

To those who still revere him, the Volibear is the storm made manifest. Destructive, wild, and stubbornly resolute, he existed before mortals walked the Freljord's tundra, and is fiercely protective of the lands that he and his demi-god kin created. Cultivating a deep hatred of civilization and the weakness it brought with it, he now fights to return to the old ways—when the land was untamed, and blood spilled freely—and eagerly battles all who oppose him, with tooth, claw, and thundering domination.

Short biography by Riot Games · Data Dragon 16.20.1

What shapes their story?

Volibear's vision of the Freljord challenges the structures through which mortals try to make life secure. The conflict with Ornn brings that difference into a family history, opposing an ideal of untamed strength to the durable things craft creates.

A god remembers the older wilderness

Volibear remembers a Freljord that predates settled mortal society. Storm, wilderness and violence are parts of an older world he regards as more truthful than the civilisation replacing it.

    Civilisation becomes something to resist

His protection of the land can therefore become a threat to people who want a different future there. Restoring the old ways is not the same promise as making daily life safer for every tribe.

The old world's protector confronts its inhabitants

Mortals who build a settled future can experience Volibear's return as destruction rather than rescue. His conflict with Ornn exposes different divine relationships with their followers. Protecting the Freljord in his own terms does not mean accepting the ways its people have chosen to live.

The story beneath the scenery

What makes this place matter?

The landscape holds several layers of history: tribal survival, the legends of demigods and the secret of the Watchers beneath the ice. Ashe, Sejuani and Lissandra represent competing futures, while Ornn, Anivia and Volibear connect the region to older powers.

Where the stories come from

VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.

What the pictures show

Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.

A world still being written

Older biographies and newer adaptations can differ. These guides introduce connections rather than declaring a final chronology or a character's current whereabouts. Translations help you explore and may keep original proper names. Follow the official sources for full context.
