The Void · Intrusions

Void rifts

Rifts are breaches through which the Void's influence reaches Runeterra. Treat them as a kind of world-threatening intrusion, rather than a single settled city or a safe route to explore.

Understand the setting, step by step

These are reading stages, not a dated timeline. The sources describe a setting, culture or otherworldly connection without establishing a complete local chronology.

    01

A breach reaches the material world

Void influence enters Runeterra through intrusions rather than a conventional border. Icathia demonstrates how opening such a breach can destroy those who hoped to control it.

  2. Armored in DarknessRiot Games · World artwork
    02

Lives are changed by the intrusion

Kai'Sa's survival and Kassadin's loss turn a vast threat into personal experience. Their stories do not require every survivor to have encountered the same rift.

    Responses divide rather than unite

Malzahar embraces what others resist, while Kai'Sa fights to protect people. Shared contact with the Void does not make these characters allies or give its creatures one purpose.

Artwork sets the scene; it does not depict each event. Stage numbers show reading order.

More about this place and its region

Behind the name

The story of this place

A rift is an intrusion into the material world, not a settled homeland. Kai'Sa's survival, Kassadin's pursuit and Malzahar's devotion show how people can respond very differently to the same threat. Their stories describe consequences of the Void without establishing a single shared entrance or current location.

Part of a larger world

The Void

The Void is not simply another kingdom on the map. Its breaches threaten the material world, and its creatures do not share one human purpose. Icathia's fall and Kai'Sa's survival offer different starting points for understanding the cost of those intrusions.

Stories connected to this place

These connections include origins, pivotal events and the wider culture of the setting. They do not confirm a character's current location.

Kai'SaKai'Sa

Wider story context

Kai'Sa survived a childhood disaster by adapting beneath the world she knew. A living Void carapace became both the means of staying alive and a reminder of the environment that nearly consumed her.

KassadinKassadin

Wider story context

Kassadin once knew Shurima as a guide and traveller, then chose a quieter family life. The destruction of his village by the Void turned that settled future into a search for answers and vengeance.

MalzaharMalzahar

Wider story context

Malzahar followed visions through Shurima until his search reached Icathia. What others understand as a terrifying breach, he came to interpret as a revelation about the world's future.

Where the stories come from

VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.

What the pictures show

Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.

A world still being written

Older biographies and newer adaptations can differ. These guides introduce connections rather than declaring a final chronology or a character's current whereabouts. Translations help you explore and may keep original proper names. Follow the official sources for full context.
