The person behind the champion

A story to start with

Utterly mad, tragically homicidal, and horrifyingly purple, Dr. Mundo is what keeps many of Zaun's citizens indoors on particularly dark nights. Now a self-proclaimed physician, he was once a patient of Zaun's most infamous asylum. After "curing" the entire staff, Dr. Mundo established his practice in the empty wards that once treated him and began mimicking the highly unethical procedures he had so often experienced himself. With a full cabinet of medicines and zero medical knowledge, he now makes himself more monstrous with each injection and terrifies the hapless "patients" who wander near his office.

Short biography by Riot Games · Data Dragon 16.20.1

What shapes their story?

Mundo's conviction that he is helping makes his violence especially disturbing. His story preserves the institution's cruelty inside a survivor's idea of treatment, so extraordinary physical resilience becomes a means of repeating harm rather than recognising it.

An enforcer becomes an asylum patient

Before calling himself a doctor, Mundo was an enforcer who became a patient in a Zaunite asylum. The institution's abuse transformed an already unusual man into something far more dangerous.

    Abuse mistaken for medical knowledge

He escaped by imitating the procedures inflicted on him, misunderstanding violence as treatment. His self-appointed medical career therefore repeats the cruelty of the place that changed him.

  3. The Zaun GrayRiot Games · World artwork

    Repeating the institution's violence

Mundo's attempts to cure people reproduce what was done to him in the asylum. His confidence makes correction unlikely, while his altered body lets him survive dangers others could not. The horror lies in a victim's suffering being repeated as supposed treatment.

The story beneath the scenery

What makes this place matter?

Zaun is a lived-in home as well as an industrial undercity. Its different levels separate workshops, markets and dangerous depths. Ekko and Zeri's community ties offer a different view from the chem-barons and experiments that dominate many outsiders' impressions.

Where the stories come from

VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.

What the pictures show

Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.
