The person behind the champion

A story to start with

Jayce Talis is a brilliant inventor who, along with his friend Viktor, made the first great discoveries in the field of hextech. Celebrated across Piltover, he tries to live up to his reputation as "the Man of Progress," but often struggles with the expectations placed upon him. Because of this, Jayce has begun to see the ways in which his invention has furthered the division between Piltover and Zaun—and armed with his hextech hammer, he stands ready to defend tomorrow.

Short biography by Riot Games · Data Dragon 16.20.1

What shapes their story?

A discovery's promise does not settle the question of how to use it. Jayce's relationship with Viktor makes invention a conflict over recognition and methods, while Piltover supplies an audience eager to turn achievement into a symbol.

    An inventor within Piltover's hopes

Jayce's talent as a Piltover inventor places him at the centre of hopes for hextech. Working with Viktor makes progress both a scientific achievement and a relationship with personal stakes.

    Public acclaim becomes an expectation

Public celebration turns discovery into expectation. The title of a visionary becomes harder to inhabit when inventions can deepen inequality as well as improve lives.

    A celebrated future has consequences

Jayce's public reputation makes scientific choices political ones. Viktor's contrasting approach reveals how similar hopes can produce incompatible methods. The older biographies and Arcane develop their history differently, so the shared question of progress should not be mistaken for one identical sequence of events.

The story beneath the scenery

What makes this place matter?

Trade brings wealth and invention to Piltover, but access to opportunity is uneven. Its polished architecture makes more sense alongside Zaun's workshops and hazardous streets. Read both cities together to understand why progress can be a promise for one person and a burden for another.

Where the stories come from

VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.

What the pictures show

Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.
