The person behind the champion

A story to start with

Jhin is a meticulous criminal psychopath who believes murder is art. Once an Ionian prisoner, but freed by shadowy elements within Ionia's ruling council, the serial killer now works as their cabal's assassin. Using his gun as his paintbrush, Jhin creates works of artistic brutality, horrifying victims and onlookers. He gains a cruel pleasure from putting on his gruesome theater, making him the ideal choice to send the most powerful of messages: terror.

Short biography by Riot Games · Data Dragon 16.20.1

What shapes their story?

Performance is not a harmless interest attached to Jhin's violence; it is the language through which he justifies shaping other lives. Hwei and the Kinkou introduce people who experience the cost behind his carefully controlled presentation.

    Killing composed as a performance

Jhin treats killing as a deliberately composed performance. His history in Ionia links that private obsession to investigators and institutions that struggled to contain the violence it produced.

  2. Cliffside TemplesRiot Games · Regional world artwork

    Release gives cruelty new patrons

Release from imprisonment gave his methods a political use. Working for hidden patrons turns personal cruelty into messages intended to terrify audiences far beyond the immediate victim.

  3. HweiClassic champion artwork · Riot Games

A performance leaves other lives behind it

Jhin's patrons can use the terror he creates, but the victims and survivors pay the cost of his compositions. Hwei's experience shows why artistic language cannot make that harm abstract. Investigators such as Shen and Zed encounter a criminal whose obsession survives ordinary explanations of motive.

Champion connections

Two artists, a home destroyed

Hwei

Jhin visited Hwei's temple and exchanged ideas with him before its destruction. Their connection places Hwei's later search for understanding beside the man who transformed his world through violence.

The pursuit of the Golden Demon

Shen

Shen helped investigate the killings attributed to the Golden Demon. Discovering Jhin behind the terror made the threat a human criminal, without making his violence less disturbing.

An investigation that left a mark

Zed

Zed's pursuit of Jhin with his former teachers belongs to the history before his own order. The experience is part of the tension between restraint and immediate violence in his later choices.

Connections describe the linked official stories. A shared history does not establish a current alliance or location.

More about the region

The First Lands form an archipelago where the material and spirit realms meet closely. Invasion has divided its people over whether to restore old traditions or turn their magic toward resistance.

Koyehn

Hwei grew up around the Temple of Koyehn, an arts conservatory on an island in northwestern Ionia. Jhin's visit and the later destruction of that community make the place central to the difference between their ideas of creation.

The story beneath the scenery

What makes this place matter?

Ionia's spiritual balance is not a single shared answer. The Noxian invasion forces champions to disagree about tradition, resistance and revenge. The Placidium offers a starting point for Irelia's resistance; the Kinkou opens a different path through Shen and Akali's stories.

Where the stories come from

VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.

What the pictures show

Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.
