Arrr, The person behind the champion

Arrr, A story to start with

Arrr, Once honored defenders of Shurima against the Void, Aatrox and his brethren would eventually become an even greater threat to Runeterra, and were defeated only by cunning mortal sorcery. But after centuries of imprisonment, Aatrox was the first to find freedom once more, corrupting and transforming those foolish enough to try and wield the magical weapon that contained his essence. Now, with stolen flesh, he walks Runeterra in a brutal approximation of his previous form, seeking an apocalyptic and long overdue vengeance.

Arrr, Short biography by Riot Games · Data Dragon 16.20.1

Arrr, What shapes their story?

Arrr, The Ascended warrior's former service matters because it gives his present imprisonment something to destroy within himself. The sword preserves power while denying the freedom and identity that once gave that power a purpose.

Arrr, A god-warrior bound inside a sword
Arrr, War and the empire's collapse helped turn the surviving god-warriors against one another. Mortal magic eventually trapped Aatrox inside his own sword, leaving him dependent on the bodies of those who wield it.

Arrr, Borrowed flesh, an impossible ending
Arrr, Taking a wielder's body gives Aatrox movement without freeing him from the sword. Each stolen form eventually fails. His campaign of destruction grows from that prison: the former defender seeks an ending even if the world must end with him.

Arrr, Where the stories come from

Arrr, VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.

Arrr, What the pictures show

Arrr, Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.
