Behind the name
The story of this place
The Ascension ritual made the disc a monument to imperial power before betrayal made it a centre of catastrophe. Azir, Xerath and Sivir connect its fall and restoration to personal choices. Nasus and Renekton add the perspective of god-warriors whose lives outlasted the empire they served.
Part of a larger world
Shurima
The empire's fall did not end life in Shurima. Settlements, trade and local cultures continued among its ruins. Azir's return reopens old imperial ambitions, while Sivir and Taliyah offer perspectives shaped by the people living in the desert today.

Stories connected to this place
These connections include origins, pivotal events and the wider culture of the setting. They do not confirm a character's current location.
AatroxWider story context
Before becoming a darkin, Aatrox was a Shuriman Ascended who fought the Void at Icathia. The warrior remembered as a monster once stood among the empire's celebrated defenders.
Follow their place connections
IcathiaThe war against the Void is part of his history as an Ascended warrior before his fall as a Darkin.
AzirHow their story connects
The failed Ascension destroyed Azir's empire; the restored Sun Disc later marks his return as an Ascended ruler.
NasusHow their story connects
Azir's return and Renekton's escape make the lost empire more than a scholar's memory. Nasus must confront the brother he failed to recover and the powers that destroyed their world. Knowledge remains useful, but cannot by itself undo captivity, resentment or the empire's collapse.
RenektonHow their story connects
Leaving the tomb returns Renekton to a world in which the brother he once loved is still alive. Xerath's manipulation has made that reunion a threat instead of a release. The continuing tragedy is that Nasus now represents the betrayal Renekton was taught to remember.
SivirHow their story connects
Her ancient bloodline connects her survival and Azir's return to the rebirth of Shurima's imperial capital.
XerathHow their story connects
Xerath's seizure of the Ascension ritual turns the imperial monument into the centre of Shurima's catastrophe.

Icathia
Icathia's rebellion against Shurima unleashed the Void and destroyed the land its people hoped to free. Jax and Zilean preserve very different responses to that loss; other champions connect to the breach, the war or its aftermath.

Where the stories come from
VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.
What the pictures show
Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.
