The past returns to the present

More regional history and context

A past that shapes the present

History of the region

Ascension helped sustain an empire of god-warriors until betrayal shattered its capital. The desert's people continued living, trading and building communities after that collapse. Azir's return brings imperial history into conflict with the choices of those who never stopped calling Shurima home.

The story beneath the scenery

What is at stake?

The empire's fall did not end life in Shurima. Settlements, trade and local cultures continued among its ruins. Azir's return reopens old imperial ambitions, while Sivir and Taliyah offer perspectives shaped by the people living in the desert today.

Ruined homeland

Icathia

Icathia's rebellion against Shurima unleashed the Void and destroyed the land its people hoped to free. Jax and Zilean preserve very different responses to that loss; other champions connect to the breach, the war or its aftermath.

Champions connected to this region

These are regional story connections, including origins and affiliations. They do not confirm where a character is now.

AmumuAmumu

Their place in the wider story

Amumu belongs as much to Shuriman folklore as to a straightforward historical record. Different retellings try to explain the small, bandaged figure and the loneliness that follows him.

NaafiriNaafiri

Their place in the wider story

Naafiri's darkin existence was once confined to a weapon. Release through a pack of Shuriman dune hounds gave that ancient mind an unfamiliar form of freedom.

NasusNasus

Their place in the wider story

Nasus served ancient Shurima as a scholar and strategist before becoming one of its Ascended. Knowledge and judgement were central to his authority, not secondary qualities behind a powerful body.

RammusRammus

Their place in the wider story

Rammus crosses Shurima beneath a shell that has inspired more explanations than answers. People interpret him through the beliefs and hopes they bring to an encounter.

RenektonRenekton

Their place in the wider story

Renekton's fierceness once served Shurima, with his older brother Nasus providing a very different kind of strength. Ascension made them extraordinary, but did not remove their family bond.

TaliyahTaliyah

Their place in the wider story

Taliyah's stone magic grew within a Shuriman nomadic life that could not easily explain or contain it. Leaving home was an attempt to learn how to live with a gift capable of endangering others.

Kai'SaKai'Sa

Their place in the wider story

Kai'Sa survived a childhood disaster by adapting beneath the world she knew. A living Void carapace became both the means of staying alive and a reminder of the environment that nearly consumed her.

KassadinKassadin

Their place in the wider story

Kassadin once knew Shurima as a guide and traveller, then chose a quieter family life. The destruction of his village by the Void turned that settled future into a search for answers and vengeance.

CassiopeiaCassiopeia

Their place in the wider story

Cassiopeia grew up within the Noxian Du Couteau family, learning influence and intrigue rather than following her sister Katarina's path as an assassin. Her ambitions later led her into Shurima.

EzrealEzreal

Their place in the wider story

Ezreal grew up around Piltover but made adventure central to his identity. Ruins, lost artifacts and the promise of discovery draw him far beyond the comforts of his home city.

RengarRengar

Their place in the wider story

Rengar's Kiilash upbringing measured worth through hunting, while his small size made him an unwanted child in his father's eyes. Survival outside the tribe forced him to build his own idea of strength.

Where the stories come from

VRC.LOL writes the introductions, reading notes and connections using linked Riot Universe biographies and regional guides. Short champion summaries use Data Dragon version 16.20.1. Longer histories link to the official story used; some champions currently have a shorter official overview.

What the pictures show

Artwork belongs to Riot Games. Scenery comes from Riot's Runeterra world map; champion art depicts the character. A regional illustration sets the scene when a landmark has no dedicated image. It does not show a confirmed event at that exact place.

A world still being written

Older biographies and newer adaptations can differ. These guides introduce connections rather than declaring a final chronology or a character's current whereabouts. Translations help you explore and may keep original proper names. Follow the official sources for full context.
